British boxer has already lost another family member due to COVID-19
British lightweight boxer Anthony Yarde announced earlier this week that his father had died of a coronavirus. On Thursday, it turned out that the same illness took his grandmother’s life.
“It’s serious! People still go out, even though they shouldn’t,” Yarde wrote on social media. “I know there are a lot of different opinions about COVID-19 and I have my own, but I know those opinions aren’t worth risking your life. Just stay home. Dad, rest in peace. Grandma, rest in peace.”
“We are extremely sad to learn that Anthony Yarde has now lost his grandmother to the coronavirus,” wrote Twitter promoter Frank Warren. “We can’t imagine what Anthony and his family are going through, and we express our sincere condolences. Please listen to his heartfelt prayer and stay home to save lives.”
Yarde wrote earlier this week that his father, who died of a coronavirus, had no previous health problems. The boxer was due to meet his compatriot Lyndon Arthur on April 11, but the event has been postponed due to the pandemic.
In the United Kingdom, more than 3,500 people have died from coronavirus.
