Ford Mustang Mach-e, the proof: the wild horse becomes electric
It’s a sporty, yet spacious and super-tech crossover. In terms of performance and hi-tech equipment, it does not fear challenges. Some enthusiasts will not digest but the choice made by Ford for its first new-generation electric and the Ford Mustang Mach-e will always remain an indelible outrage. However, the idea of using the name of America’s most famous sportswoman for the big debut in an unknown market (and everything to be invented) could also prove to be a great marketing move. The reference to one of the most famous cars of all time draws attention to the zero-emission crossover with the stars and stripes passport (but made in Mexico), which does everything to deserve the horse it carries on the hood. The pleasant and proportionate aesthetics is accompanied by high-level dynamic qualities, which among the electric are the prerogative only of the Porsche Taycan.
The quality of the interior of the Ford Mustang Mach-e far superior to that of any other Ford and the 15.5-inch vertical display in the center of the dashboard steals all the attention. It is very sensitive, has beautiful graphics, and is fast, thanks to the latest generation of SYNC infotainment. The software uses machine learning to record preferences and turn them into suggestions, updates over-the-air is always connected to the cloud and to the owner’s smartphone, which can also be used instead of the key. If you forget at home, no problem because a numeric keypad appears on the pillar and the car opens like a safe. Once inside, the Mustang automatically sets all the customizations: climate control, seats, lighting, and more. The driving methods, on the other hand,
The latter is regenerative braking so pronounced that the use of the brake is unnecessary; in daily driving, it takes just a few minutes to get used to it and then you can’t do without it anymore. But with this Ford Mustang Mach-e, the coolest thing is unleashing the 351hp and 580Nm that the two electric motors send to all four wheels. Asking for the maximum, you fly from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds, which for a 4.7-meter long crossover is not bad at all. However, the special effects of the electric Mustang do not end on the straight: the steering wheel is very sensitive and the direct gear ratio makes the car feel sewn on. The suspensions, even if not electronic, are very well calibrated and the set-up is very communicative. Also, by deactivating the traction control, you can perform in excellent power oversteer with reasonable ease. In other words, if you are looking for fun, the Mach-E will answer you, and when it’s time to brake there is the Brembo system that uses the innovative Flexira calipers and keeps over 22 quintals at bay.
For driving efficiency, however, the best thing is to predict traffic trends and take advantage of regenerative deceleration, recharging the batteries, which are 68 or 88 kWh. In this way, the maximum range (WLTP approved) is reached, which in the 4WD version is 540 km and in the 2WD it increases to 610 km. For recharging, you can use the FordPass Charging Network, which is the network of European charging stations that already has over 150,000 stations. Charging times vary depending on the system used, but the maximum supported power is 150 kW, so much so that the accumulators can go from 10 to 80% in 45 minutes. When you get back on board you will appreciate the comfortable interior space for five adults, the very accurate soundproofing, and the BeO audio system with speakers that look like a soundbar.
