Probiotics: The Solution For Dry Skin? Their names: “Lactobazillus plantarum” or “Lactobazillus paracasei”. Their tasks: to support the intestinal flora, strengthen the immune system and, at the same time, also ensure radiant skin. Probiotics are living microorganisms which, in the right dosage, have a health-promoting effect, explains Prof. Dr. Michaela Axt-Gadermann (53), author of the book “Healthy with Gut” by the news agency spot on news. Around 70 to 80 percent of all immune cells that produce antibodies and fight infections in the body are found in the intestinal mucosa, according to her.

What does the intestinal flora have to do with the appearance of the skin? “Studies have shown that the absorption of certain probiotic bacteria can help with dry skin,” says the doctor. Among other things, the intake of the lactic acid bacterium “Lactobazillus plantarum” has measurably improved the skin’s moisture supply and reduced the depth of wrinkles. Meanwhile, the bacterium “Lactobacillus paracasei” has had a positive effect on the sensitivity and irritability of the skin.

It all depends on the dosage

Probiotic bacteria are now available in pharmacies as well as in drugstores. However, not every product is suitable for everyone here, explains the expert. So that the desired effects can really be achieved, the lactic acid bacteria would have to be supplied in sufficient quantities. According to Prof. Dr. Axt-Gadermann effective daily doses are “mostly at least 10 to 15 billion germs or well above”. The number of bacteria contained in the product is given as “CFU” (“colony-forming units”).

It should also be ensured that the probiotic preparation contains eight to ten or even more different strains of germs. The doctor explains: “The germs that are beneficial for us humans are like a family, they support each other, form a network and cooperate with one another in many different ways contain several well-coordinated strains of microbes. ” Combining different preparations with each other is harmless.
